Jumpers

The Jumpers are back in town..
The peaks of our mountains are said to be some of the best for jumping off of; for paragliding, of course!
When the weather warms up, we see many para~ gliders dotting the blue sky.
 Landing zone.
Prepping zone, as well.
To learn more about our local popular jump sites, visit here:Central Utah Air Sports Association

Certainly looks like a blast, but I'll be keeping my feet on the ground, and eyes to the skies and enjoying the jumpers from terra firma, with a set of binoculars.

Now that we are official members of the 'Bragging Grandparents Club', I just want to mention that our little Liam will be a big brother to a sweet baby sister in June!
Our darling daughter~in~love had a bit of a scare last week, so she's been instructed to take it easy and absolutely NO lifting.
She's following doctors orders and is feeling well now and each day is a small victory!

Things I've been working on ...
*Yard work...in all of its glorious forms!
*Major re~arranging of furniture. Living here for 9 months now, I'm getting familiar with our home and what looks and feels best.
I tend to start one project, then it becomes 2 and 3 and 30!!!

~ A few of my favorite things....October ~

October is without a doubt, my favorite month of all.
I adore the colors of the changing leaves, the soft light of mornings, and that crisp air.
My sweet husband and I go for a walk everyday together, and these last few days we've walked up on the foothills and around the farms.
The road to the dairy farm.
Our home is just on the other side of the dairy, and nestled alongside the foothills.
The road leads to the ponds.
Over the creek we go, and up past some darling old farm houses.
Old farmhouse made of cut stone.
Adorable white farmhouse with a vintage wire and wood fence.
Yellow farmhouse with a picket fence, and black shutters.
Darling red screen door and welcoming entry posts.
Our home... all decorated for Halloween.
Can you spy our dog Rowdy's basketball? It blends right in with those cheery pumpkins~!
Near the front door... broom parking for all.
On the sofa table... a fantastic ceramic pumpkin that we bought in Santa Fe.
Fence post pumpkins, made from scrap wood last fall, and four little Halloween ceramic 'egg heads' that I painted nearly 22 years ago.

Faux gourds and a white pumpkin, a Halloween hat box, and another little ceramic piece I painted 22 years ago too.

"Spooky" wood letters on the mantle, and a few wood craft pumpkins. The simple "boo" banner that I made last fall.

These things are just a few of my favorite things this October.

~Attitude of gratitude:
~I'm so grateful for my wonderful family. They are my greatest blessing!
~Feeling thankful for cozy, fuzzy socks.
~Grateful for the time I had Sunday to study my scriptures; renewed my determination to be charitable, and loving, and to seek opportunities of service.
~Grateful for Monday night family dinners, and the opportunity to increase my baking and cooking skills.
~Feeling thankful for our 'new' leaf blower. Wow.. sure makes 'sweeping' the sidewalk, driveway and gutters a snap! Why didn't we buy a leaf blower years ago?? We were in St. George at to go to Tuacahn, and while we were there, we stopped by D.I. and I found a Stihl gas powered lawn blower for just $30.00. Yay!! Love a great buy!!

Thursday

~ Catching up ....

First of all, I want to wish everyone a very happy first day of Fall... yay!!!

It's been a while.
Blogging took a backseat this past summer.

We decided to enjoy every bit of summer and make time for traveling and spending time with family.

My sweet husband and I just returned from a wonderful trip to beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico.
If you've ever been to Santa Fe, then you know how beautiful it is. The architecture, the colors... it's all wonderful.
I love the old doors, and the blues, and greens, and turquoise colors against the adobe and stucco colors. Look at the brick detail in the above picture... simply beautiful.
Did you know that the oldest house in the United States is in Santa Fe??
This is the oldest house in the U.S.A.
There is a museum in the house, and you can see the way that people used to live back then.
One of the best things about Santa Fe, is that right now is chili season, and everywhere you go, there are chilis roasting. The entire city smells wonderful and there are delicious meals with roasted chilis as a main ingredient.
We brought home four containers of fire roasted chilis. I deseeded them and cut the stems off and froze them. Looking forward to having those chilis this winter... thinking about the delicious breakfast burritos, and chili relleno casseroles, and blue corn and chili cornbread... yum!
Driving through Utah, we saw some pretty country. This area is in the Monument Valley region. Utah is a gorgeous state!!

Back home, we are getting Fall~ish weather now.
The grass across the meadow is all golden and dry now, and the Fall storms make for the most beautiful sunrises.
Fall is my favorite time of year.... absolutely!
Though, I will miss our summer flowers.
My sweet husband and I are staying pretty busy... .so much for slowing down as one gets older... **haha**!
We are now working two days a week in the Manti temple.
We are baptistry coordinators and that's keeping us pretty busy.
We're still making time to travel a bit, and we are working on projects around the house.
I'll have project updates soon, and show you what we've been up to.

*Attitude of gratitude ~
~I'm so thankful for this season in my life. Being an empty nester is the best!! We adore and love our kids, but having time together without additional distractions and responsibilities is wonderful!
~I'm grateful for the rain we are getting. It is sorely needed, and although growing season is about done with, it's nice to have the moisture and to take a break from having the sprinklers on.
~I'm so grateful for our safe travels. Each time we've taken a trip, we have been blessed with safety. No vehicle problems, or health problems, etc...  so very blessed!!

Tuesday

~ Soaking up Summer ~

 Hello friends,
It's been a wonderful summer.
My sweet husband took some time off, and we spent the time doing projects, and we threw in time for fun too.
We went to visit our oldest son and his wife. This adorable cottage is in a little town, near where they live.
Isn't it just precious~!
Thanks to everyone for their well wishes, and for their tips on getting our sunflowers to grow again, after we had to dig them all up.
The above picture was taken shortly after we transplanted them back into the ground.
 And now, they are thriving.
I think that the shock of being up-rooted, stunted their growth a bit, but they are putting on quite a show, and surviving!~
We planted about 10 different varieties.
So far, we think about 6 of the varieties have survived.
These red ones are really stunning.
I am so happy that they survived, and I'll be saving seeds from these to plant en~mass next spring.

A new flower to our gardens, is this Green Eyed Susan.
Isn't it wonderful~?!
I do hope that it takes hold, and next spring takes off!  I hope to have enough next spring to divide and put in several places in the borders.
One of the things that we did while my sweet husband was off, is work on the fence. We now have one side completely done...~~ Yay!
We also bought new perennials and planted them in the borders.  This variety of cone flower, as well as a yellow variety, another variety of lavender, and we put in 4 trees! Two of the trees are maples, and one tree is an apple tree, and the other is an ornamental pear tree.
With the other variegated maple and the two plum trees we put in this spring, our yard will have beauty, shade, wind protection and fruit. It's a wonderful thing~!
It's always nice to have fresh flowers in the summertime.
Cosmos are growing ~ seeds from a friend. Goldenrod ~ plant starts from a friend. Daisies, they were here when we moved into this house, and the Black Eyed Susans, I planted last spring, along with some tick seed.
And, yes.. some of our beautiful survivor sunflowers are gracing our kitchen island.
The gladiolus are some that the stem snapped on, after a rain storm. I generally do not cut them, for I like them in the borders, more than I like them in a vase ~~ still, they are gorgeous! We planted them in the early, early spring this year.
We bought a flat of raspberries.  Seven plus pounds.
We made the most delicious raspberry jam~!
My sweet husband helped me.... he is a wonderful pot stirrer.... in the best way~! He generally helps me with the canning, if he's home.
We made 3 batches of raspberry jam.
We also bought some gorgeous, giant apricots at the farm stand. You can just see one peeking out of the yellow bowl.
I made 4 batches of apricot ~ pineapple jam.
I had to stir the pot all by myself though, as my sweet husband was at work.
He thinks I'm a great pot stirrer too ~~~ smile.
The jam turned out wonderful, sweet, and delicious~!
By the way........ have you ever had a pan fried potatoes and onions and topped it off with a dollop of apricot ~ pineapple jam??
It is a taste of heaven~ really!
Another project that we worked on, was to make a shed overhang roof for the ATV's.
We planned to add a shed overhang roof to the back side of the garden shed, when we first ordered it in the spring.
Once the shed was delivered, and we painted it, we knew the next order of business was to get the shed overhang roof built, before winter and snows descend on us.
My sweet husband, and our youngest son worked together to get the shed overhang roof done.
There is plenty of room for our ATV's, plus there is still enough room left over to stack wood next to the roof.
Just disregard the totes {they still need to be put in the garage} and the garden wagon {full of tools and supplies for the fence} and the birdhouse {still needs to find a home in one of the borders} and the charcoal grill { we only use it once in a while, and generally use our gas grill}.
I still need to get the stuff put away, and finish the posts, etc.  I'm debating if I want to stain them to look old, or paint them to match the garden shed.
The roof is old tin that was recycled from our son's old garage.
Hmmm..... guess I'd better decide soon, and get it finished.
When summer began, we had one hummingbird feeder, and one faithful little hummingbird.
We now have 2 hummingbird feeders, and we are filling them 2 x a day.
Last night as we sat watching them, as close as we could count... we now have over a dozen little hummingbirds.
I think they are trying to soak up summer too ~!
In one of our previous houses, we had 3 feeders and filled them multiple times a day.. we could count more than 20 hummers.
So, for now, we haven't set a hummingbird record.
Still, there is a bit of summer left, so one never knows.
Another fun thing we've been doing to soak up summer, is to go up to the lake.
This lake is just five miles from our house.
My sweet husband catches the biggest lake trout, and we've had some delicious dinners of lake trout with grilled veggies.
Tastes of summer.......
Can you spy that little town? That's our little town.
The winding road takes you up the canyon to the lake.
As you can see, we are blessed to live in a beautiful valley.
Mountains surround us, and fields make a beautiful patchwork like quilt in the valley.

I'm off to soak up some more summer.
Before you know it, it will be Autumn.

~Attitude of gratitude
~ Feeling blessed to have fresh jam on the shelves in the store room
~Feeling grateful to have packages of shredded zucchini in the freezer... enough to last throughout the winter, and to make cookies, breads, soups and chili's with.
~Thankful that we've been able to travel safely to our destinations, and back home again. What a blessing!
~Feeling thankful for great books and magazines that I've found at bargain prices this summer. I'm all stocked up for Fall and Winter reading, and for just a few dollars!
~I am so grateful for my life! I have a wonderful life, and I am completely humbled by how blessed I am. I feel favored by the Lord...

Wednesday

* Perfect*

This day started out in a perfect way.
Six O' Clock in the morning, and the skies are ablaze with color
Sun rising over the mountains.
 Perfect Sunrise.
Perfect gift received from Nancy @  http://nancy-jo.blogspot.com/
She had a giveaway recently, I am the lucky recipient of that giveaway.
Everything is lovely, but that magazine.. Daphne's diary... it's perfect
Spencer came over, and we got busy making freezer burritos to fill up his freezer.
We made breakfast burritos, filled with eggs, sausage, hash browns, peppers and cheese.
Chicken burritos, filled with chicken, beans and cheese, wrapped in spinach tortillas.  Last but not least, we made dessert burritos: filled with cream cheese sweetened with powdered sugar, and apple pie, or strawberry pie filling.  The dessert burritos turned out very much like apple Danish, or  strawberry and cream Danish.
All in all, we made 60 burritos for his freezer.
He's happy, and Mom is very happy to know , he won't starve to death... *smile**.
            Yesterday, we stopped by "Home Again".  A fun store filled with all kinds of goodies for the home!{ Click link if you'd like to visit their site.  http://www.homeagainconsignments.com/}
There is a lot to see in the store, and something for everyone.
I loved these chairs... they were sold of course.
Spencer bought a set of gorgeous green glass candle holders. I didn't buy anything.... this time.
On the way home:
See those mountains.... we have to go through the mountain pass, and still travel quite a few miles to get home.
It amazes me how much traffic there is , especially in the middle of the day.
I always wonder... 'where are all these people going'???
Growing up in Utah Valley, we never saw traffic like this, except on game days ...*smile* B.Y.U. vs. U of U.
When we pass the wind turbines, traffic thins out, and we are getting closer and closer to home.
Perfect.
I love living in the country!!

Attitude of gratitude:
~I'm so grateful for being blessed with safe travels.
~I'm grateful that Spencer's A/C in his car was fixed, and under warranty! What a savings!!
~I'm grateful we had a little time to visit the "Home Again" shop, go to the farm stand and buy fresh veggies, and go to the Salt City Candle Co. store and stock up on yummy scented candles.
~I'm grateful for the blessing of being able to live in the country.  It's nice to have cities close enough by to shop, or take care of dr. appt. , car repairs etc.. but.. it's always nice to come home
It's the perfect life for us.
