"The unthankful heart discovers no mercies; but the thankful heart will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings." Henry Ward Beecher
Heavenly Blessing : Rain and more rain.
And more rain..
Heavenly Blessing : First tomato of summer.
One that the deer didn't get.
Hallelujah , the DIY deer deterrent spray is working.
Heavenly Blessing: Pears in the dehydrator.
We wait all year, to dry pears, which are a family favorite.
We will dry peaches, plums, pears, apricots, etc...
Once they are dry, I put them in the freezer.
This year, I also have started making fruit leather : I used puree of pears and black berries, and sweetened with all natural honey. I tried out three ways of drying the puree... one on silpat, one on parchment, and one on plastic wrap. All dried in the oven on the lowest setting.
My preference; the plastic wrap. I think it worked the best out of all the methods I tried.
Attitude of gratitude:
~I am grateful that I have an appreciation for provident living. I want to be able to make the most of the summers' bounty.
I'm working on filling my deep freezer, filling my food storage shelves, and filling my pantry.
It's deeply satisfying to see those shelves filled with good food.
It also makes preparing a meal a cinch.
I've never had dehydrated pears - sounds good.
ReplyDeleteYay for rain and fresh tomatoes!
So thankful for your recent rainfall. I love pears. I have never used a dehydrator. You are very smart to fill your shelves and freezer with summer's bounty. Your fruit leather sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely rain!!! I think it must feel wonderful to have the heat break and rain to come in and make every thing seem cozy. Your pears are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI love reading all of the things you are thankful for today.
Hi Kerin!
ReplyDeleteI love the rain - I know you guys really needed it so badly . . . wonderful blessing!
I love dried fruit, thanks for the inspiration - I need to use it more than I do. Fruit leather sounds so delicious, especially made with honey! What a great sweet treat in the winter, to remind you that summer will come!
I have a really pesky Magpie who loves to peck at my tomatoes - the only way to get rid of them is a .22.... ;0) So my grandmother says!
Have a wonderful day!
Hugs,
Barb
Talented you are . . . inspiring. And you sew too. And help your son in his new home . . . Dried pear and then frozen? Do you eat them that way?
ReplyDeleteThat tomato looks delicious. We have green ones but no red ones yet.
ReplyDeleteNever had dehydrated pears. That dehydrator looks like a good thing to have.
Oh, I love your thankful heart, Kerin. You are always a blessing to me. We had rain all day today, too. So nice to have it. This is the coolest summer we've had in longer than I can remember.
ReplyDeleteThose pears look yummy!! You are such a good steward to the gifts in your life. blessings ~ tanna
Dried pears sound delicious. I have only used my food dehydrator for meat..I would like to try fruit..just haven't done it yet. I'm glad the deer deterrent is working.
ReplyDeleteHi Kerin. Rain really does sound like a blessing, one that we haven't had for awhile. I'm glad you got that gorgeous tomato and not the deer, and the pears sound wonderful. I have a small hydrator and have done apples and oranges for decorations. Will have to drag it out and try some pears..Happy Sunday..Judy
