June: Of marigolds, tomatoes, and snow!

We don't have a formal garden space this year.
With this being a new house, and not getting moved in until the first part of May, it just isn't going to happen this year.
We did, however plant some pots full of flowers and an old galvanized wash bucket with two tomato plants.
A few small tomatoes are growing already.  The one above is "Indigo Rose", an heirloom variety.
The other tomato {above} is another heirloom variety: "Mr. Stripey".
Wouldn't it be wonderful if both plants thrive, and we are picking juicy tomatoes all summer long?!
I would like to have enough tomatoes to at least have fresh tomatoes bruschetta for the 4th of July.
We awoke to a dusting of snow on the mountain tops this morning.
It was forecast that higher elevations would be getting snow. It started raining last night, and all of a sudden, the temperatures dropped.
I figured that we were too far South, and we wouldn't get the colder weather and snow showers that the North part of the state would get.
However, we did get the rains, and  we did get a touch of snow.
Today will be much cooler, with clouds lingering across the mountain tops.
All the rain we received made the meadows and mountains so green.
 Such a beautiful sight.
It's been an amazing weather year.
My heart goes out to all those that have had weather related tragedies this summer.
My prayers are with them.
June has been a crazy weather month.

Attitude of gratitude:
~I'm grateful that Spencer was able to get the power washer running. It hadn't been used for a couple of years, and he worked on it, figured out what was wrong with it, fixed it for me and then power-washed the entire driveway, patio, sidewalks, gutters, and part of the street.  Everything looks so nice, and it was so thoughtful for him to do that for me.
~I'm grateful for the rain that we've been blessed with. It has been a very hot and dry year so far, and the rains were certainly an answer to many prayers.
~I'm grateful for my amazing family, and all that they do for me each and every day. They are my greatest blessing!

  1. Hi Kerin, WOW! SNOW! Very pretty photos. I hope you have great success with the heirloom tomatoes. You will have to share your July 4th recipe with us.
What a thoughtful gesture for Spencer to pressure wash your home/drive. Is he still liking his new home?
    Have a blessed evening.

    1. Yes, he's still loving his 'new' home.
He gets frustrated because he has a lot to still do, and feels like he doesn't have enough time. I reminded his today, that he has a life-time to get it done :)

  2. Kerin, I love your little marigolds. Such a bright pop of beautiful color. Oh, heirloom tomatoes are so wonderful, add a little basil and mayo and you have the best sandwich in the world! I hope you get enough for the 4th. Stay warm and dry. Your spot looks so beautiful even with the iffy weather..Happy Wednesday..Judy

  5. Such pretty flowers even though you don't have a formal garden. Hope you get plenty of tomatoes.
Snow?! Wow. Is that normal for this time of year?

    1. Nope. Snow is not normal for this time of year.
I can remember some 29 years ago or so, having snow flurries in mid May. The snow didn't stick though, and the sun came out in just a few hours. Snow this time of year is very un-usual.

  6. You have such a beautiful view, Kerin! I'd spend hours just looking out the window. I'll be interested in hearing how your tomatoes in the galvanized bucket do. I hope you get some nice tomatoes!

  9. A little snow is much more tolerable when you know it's not going to last for months & months, right? I hope your tomatoes flourish!

  12. Good morning Kerin. I'm just catching up with you. I heard you had snow there. I bet the mountain will be beautiful this winter with the snow. Your new home is beautiful. So comfy feeling.
Good luck with the heirloom tomatoes.

  13. Oh, could Spencer come here and power wash my drive for me? My power washer works but it has to be on the finest spray tip to concentrate it's measly power (1400 psi) to get the mold and dirt off. I got the sidewalk and part of the drive done last fall but I need to get out an extension cord and do the rest. Always something....maybe a townhouse isn't such a bad idea? LOL! NO, I am too much of an outdoor gal. I would love the cool temps and the snow. I don't even have flowers on my tomato plants yet! Lucky you! They don't offer heritage varieties here but when I get up North I will start from seeds. Blessings to you my friend!

  14. It can't be often the the word "snow" pops up in a June blog post title! At least it was just a dusting of it.

I'm intrigued by your tomatoes; the indigo coloured ones are definitely new to me.

  16. Hi Karin,
I was looking at your older posts and was so happy to see pictures of your new house. Everything looks so pretty, I just love it. And you made all those curtains. Well everything just loos so nice. I'm so excited for you.
Yes Hot dogs with cheese. Very good. Just slit the hot dog length wise and when its done put a slice or half a slice of American cheese on it. Remember the pigs in the blanket? Small hot dog and cheese wrapped in a cresant roll and baked? Those were good too. Just don't want to eat to much of this stuff, well you want to eat it but probably shouldn't.
