Monday

Welcome

 Hi! Welcome back.
It's time for me to start blogging again at "Always Fixin Never Sittin."
It was a really nice break, and it was a long, long break too.
Good for me, and for my family, and for the homestead.
Some of you know that sometimes, blogging can consume a lot of time.
Time that for me, was better spent with my family, and home.
So, now as the Summer wraps up, and the beauty of Fall is here, I'm looking forward to blogging once again.

The Pumpkin Harvest took place this past Saturday.
It's amazing just how many Pumpkins we have!
Brooke did a wonderful job planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting our pumpkin patch this summer!

We've decorated the homestead with lots, and lots of pumpkins.
Last Friday, we had a hard freeze, and that was the end of the growing season for us.
We still need to clean out the raised box gardens, and take all the pumpkin vines to the landfill.
On the potting table, pumpkins and squash cure.
Sitting in the cool, dry air and curing so that they will last the season.

I have to say, I love all the varieties of pumpkins, but I'm partial to the bumpy pumpkins, and the blue pumpkins.
They are just so cool looking.
We didn't have anything like them when I was a youngster.

Attitude of Gratitude:
So grateful for the sunshine today, and the light breeze. It makes getting my housework done so much more enjoyable.
I'm grateful for our new washer and dryer. They are work-horses and it makes Monday laundry day so nice.  Especially all that bedding that needs to be washed each Monday!

  1. I just had to come over. What a bunch of lovely pumpkins. How very nice. I didn't get a single pumpkin this year. Yours are so beautiful I love those white ones too. They look like white Cinderella pumpkins which I have never seen before. Welcome back!

  2. I was so excited to hear that you are back blogging! Your pumpkin harvest is amazing!
We won't have a hard freeze until November. Leaves won't show their fall colors for several more weeks. I'm so excited that autumn has finally arrived.

    Smiles,

    1. You are too kind. Thank you for such a warm welcome back! I am enjoying being back to blogging.
My mom always would buy a big banana squash from the farm (before farmers markets) and she would bake with it all Fall. It would stay out in the cold garage, wrapped up in saran wrap and foil. She even baked it, mashed it and made squash pies with it. Yummy!

    1. Thanks, and yes.. we grew all the pumpkins. Our daughter made it her mission to have a very big pumpkin patch this year, and after her dad tilled the ground for her, she put down black plastic to keep the weeds down, and planted all of her seeds. We ended up with some super cool pumpkins :)

  13. You're back!!! So glad to see you and that you spent your time away making pumpkins! I'm partial to those bumpy ones too. And I would have to say that the blue ones are amazing too. We went to a farm festival last weekend and they wanted $20 for a medium sized blue one. What? I guess it's a supply and demand type of thing because I wouldn't think they would cost more to grow than a regular old orange one.

    1. Holy Moly... $20 does seem very expensive for a pumpkin! I wonder if they sold many of them?? Thanks for the kind comments. It's good to be back.

  27. Hi Kerin....good to see you back blogging....I've been on a short break myself. We had a very busy year this past year...the first nine months I have been in CA at least once, many times twice. We had two weddings, two births, wedding and baby showers and my Father, who had Alzheimer's, passed away in August and his full military honors funeral was September 6. He would have been 93 in November.

Your pumpkins are GORGEOUS! I did not know pumpkins can cure just sitting...I thought they would rot. Could you please tell me more about it?

Glad you took time for you and your family...it is the best of times.

  28. Thanks Donna.
You have been very, very busy!! Sorry to hear about your father's passing; my heartfelt condolences.
As for the pumpkins curing, our temperatures are cool enough, that once the vines have frosted, then the stems are cut, that pumpkins have set their sugars and setting them out in the cool dry helps the stems cure and the blossom end cure. They will last a long time after curing. If the pumpkin does go bad, chances are that it wasn't a mature pumpkin to begin with :)
