Cooking with fire.. getting stuff done.

 Yep..
I'm cooking with fire.
Literally, and figuratively speaking.
Using our vintage Wedgewood range, I'm cooking up filling for homemade hot pockets.
I'm making Chili-Cheese hot pockets.
Another item to fill the freezer.
 Working on that Fall list.
I found a great inspirational post about homemade hot pockets here:
http://www.faithfilledfoodformoms.com/easy-homemade-hot-pockets/
Also.. I'm making up a couple dozen Homemade Breakfast Burritos for the freezer.
Our family loves them.
Super quick to grab and go, especially for Spencer as he heads out the door to classes.
His college is about 10 miles away.
And.. thanks tons for all the suggested names for our crooked beaked hen.
It was unanimous.. we named her Grace.
One of the reasons is in the movie "The Long Long Trailer" , Lucy and Desi go to visit her family, and Lucy comments on her poor old maid of a cousin.  'Poor Grace'. Makes us laugh, every time.
So, Grace, or Poor Grace it is.

Have you seen "The Long, Long Trailer"?
Hilarious.
I can so see me having ideas like Lucy.
I'm certain that I've given my sweet husband a look like this.
So..
I'm busy; cooking, freezing, cleaning and organizing.
I've already re-arranged the living room and the dining room.
Done some painting .... doors and trim , of course.
Planned some crafts.
Etc.. etc..
Plus.. I'm thinking a lot about one of my favorite Halloween movies.
"Ichabod". ..  the Disney version.
A classic favorite.
I don't like creepy movies, but I love "who done it" movies, like "Rear Window", and the movie "Clue" is always fun to watch.
"Hocus Pocus" is another family favorite.
My all time favorite Fall movie is "Summer Magic".... after all, the movie ends with a great Fall party in the old barn.

Hope you're all having a great week, and hope you have a great weekend.

Do you have a favorite Fall or Halloween movie?

Attitude of gratitude:
~I'm so grateful for the downpour of rain that we received last night.
Everything smells so clean and fresh this morning, and the lawns greened up quite a bit.
~I'm grateful for a cozy home.
~I'm grateful for the beautiful candle sticks that my Dad made for me.
They are on our dining room table, to enjoy each day.
Wish he were still here. How I miss him.

  1. We had some rain at the first of the week and I couldn't get the windows open fast enough to smell the rain.

  2. It sounds like you are blissfully busy canning and doing things around the home! The food looks so yummy (I need to go and make some lunch I am so hungry! lol) And I love the name Grace for the new chicken :) We love to watch "Little Women" with Wionona Ryder (sp?) every Fall. It's become tradition around here. :) Have a lovely weekend!

  3. I haven't thought about "Summer Magic" and The Long Long Trailer in such a long time. I can't see someone pick up a rock that I don't get a laugh. Funniest movie ever.

Your hot pockets look delicious. I'm going over to check out the original recipe.

  6. I like the plan of preparing meals ahead...for the freezer. These both sound so tasty!

I enjoy old movies, and yes, I have seen The Long, Long Trailer. The first time I saw it was in the 1970's when I was a child. I liked it then, too.

    :) Hope

  9. You have been a busy bee! Don't you love having productive days like this?

My favorite Halloween movie, although it's not strictly Halloween because it encompasses many seasons, is Meet Me in St. Louis. I just love it!

  10. The food you made today sounds and looks good. It certainly made me hungry. :)

I think that Grace is a sweet name for your chicken.

We have the "I Love Lucy" DVD collection at home. Those old shows are still very entertaining and fun to watch. I don't think I've seen "The Long, Long Trailer" though.

Anyway, have a blessed day! :)

  11. The freezer meals you make sound so good! How do you keep them from becoming freezer burnt? Even putting things in freezer bags, making sure all the air is out doesn't seem to work for me.

    1. Alica..
I wrap each burrito, or hot pocket in cling wrap individually, then put them in the freezer bags.
So far, I've never had any of them freeze.

  18. Hi Kerin,
Your hot pockets look so good. I never thought of making homemade and freezing them. That would be a great idea for my daughter. This fall she has one in kindergarten, one in first grade and she'll be in nursing college. Grab and go . . . great idea!
I hasn't seen the Long Long Trailer in years . . . first time was at the theater when I was a kid.
I am delighted that you like my project (shabby french chair re-do)and thanks for the sweet comment. Have a great day, Connie :)

  23. Hello! So happy to hear your Grace finally has a name! And a sweet name it is!

I am so impressed with you filling your freezer with "food on the run". I remember those days when I ran the household, worked and was raising my two daughters....happy and productive times for sure. I was so much more organized....I struggle with retirement...I have since I stopped working....maybe the secret is to get another job!

  24. Now you are making me want to make my own hot pockets. They look so much better than the store bought ones. It's always hard to identify the meat in those store bought ones.

  25. All of those goodies look soooooooooo yummy!

Glad the chicken has a name. Love it.

Sounds like ypu have the projects going!

  27. I'm not a hot pockets fan, but those look pretty tasty. I think what I don't like about them is the odd taste of the dough. I'm guessing yours don't have that problem.

Thanks for the link for the hotpockets, Kerin~ I will definitely check that out because my hubby would love those in his lunch!
And poor Grace... :) But at least she has a pretty new name!

  31. Hello Kerin, My you are a "busy bee", you have achieved so much. I have never had hot pockets before, so I am going to follow your link, they look very tasty and if I can freeze them, so much the better. I'm with you, I don't like horror films, my imagination runs riot, but the film Hocus Pocus is such fun. Best Wishes Daphne

  34. Kerin,
Must be something in the air or a virus going around. So many of us are cleaning out an getting rid of stuff. I'm starting on the kitchen this week. I did the cookbooks yesterday. I had so many I never use, just was saving them for the pretty pictures I guess.
Give Grace a gentle pat for me.

  37. You sound SO BUSY!!!!!

I'm in the middle of canning as well. I can't decide if I love it or not!

I hope you post pictures of all of your projects!

  38. Grace is a perfect name! She is really starting to grow on me, I hope you'll keep posting pics of her now and then and let us know how she's doing. Those hot pockets look amazing and you're so smart to get things prepared ahead and in the freezer.

  39. Oh, I forgot to comment on "Grace" last time! She's beautiful! She's a role model to the rest of us!
You are motivating me...sort of, with all your prepping for Winter....my projects are more unappealing like caulking and painting outside. The food looks wonderful! I've got to try some of those recipes, thank you!
Also, you got me to thinking...as much as Fall is my favorite season, I don't think I have any Fall movies...I don't watch much t.v. or movies unless some one I know recommends them. I am writing them all down! Thank you! They all sound wonderful!

  40. Dear Kerin...oh, those look fantastic!! (I have just eaten, or I would have to go out in search of Hot Pockets for a temporary fix! LOL)...I have STILL not seen The Long, Long, Trailer, despite having two of the most classic-movie obsessed (grown) daughters on Earth. I have been compared to Lucy in it, though, with my rock-collecting...that is the right one? :) Daughter Katie will have to bring it over for our next movie-night...♥
And, Grace!! Yay! Was I one of the ones that suggested it? (My mind...it's like a steel sieve, I tell you!) So glad you have your Dad's handiwork...I miss my Dad every day, too...
    Hugs,
    Anne
