Things to smile about ....

Colors of Spring
New adventures this spring: sourdough.
Our daughter in law recently gave me a sourdough starter; of course I happily accepted her gift.
In years past, I did all the Amish starter and sourdough starter things.
I have changed the way that I do sourdough this time around.
I do not babysit it.
I neglect it in the refrigerator for days at a time.
I feed it periodically and use the 'discard for things like chocolate chip cookies, or blueberry pancakes, and even 'Everything but the bagel seaoning' crackers.
Then, about once a week, I feed the poor neglected thing, and make bread.

Chocolate chip cookies... made with 'discard'
Sourdough Boule
Double chocolate sourdough
April Fool's day storm... we ended up with an inch or so.
In a tall tree, vultures spread their wings to dry and warm themselves.

Sun setting over the mountains.
On our way home from our five hour shift at the temple, the sun was beginning to set and it was such a beautiful and peaceful sight.

Attitude of Gratitude:
~ Thankful for the morning sun.
I've always been 'solar powered'!

I've never done sourdough. Someday I need to!

  2. Thank you, Mari!
I wasn't looking to mess with sourdough at this time, but I wanted to encourage our little daughter in law. As a new mother, and newly a stay at home homemaker, she needs encouragement and so when she started sourdough and became passionate about it, I just couldn't refuse her offer of a start, nor dare I let the starter die :)

  3. Hi Kerin. Your spring flowers are beautiful. They certainly are something to smile about. The sourdough looks so good. There is not much any prettier than a fresh baked loaf of bread and that sunset is spectacular. Hopee you are enjoying a Happy Spring my friend..xxoJudy

  5. H Kerin. I didn't realize you were back in blogland! So glad to catch up with you a bit. Congrats on the new little grandson! That is so wonderful. I love the ideas for sourdough. I may do more with that, and more bread-making once I retire! That is so cool that you are working in the Manti Temple. Do you live near Manti now? We bought a house in Ivins so will be moving down south with I retire. I would like to work in St. George Temple. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'll come to visit again soon!
